Whakamarino Lodge Guided Walks

At any time of the year, Whakamarino Lodge can organise for you one day guided bush walks, hikes or tramps and Eco-tours. Spring, summer and autumn ( October to April) are the best months as winter can be cold and wet on some days. Nevertheless, the misty winter months are often quite a unique time to explore the pristine lakes and rainforests around Lake Waikaremoana.

Outside of the peak season (20th December to 31st January) you can choose to do a 2, 3, 4 or 5 day guided tramp on The Great Walk organised by Whakamarino Lodge. (Only independent hikers can use the huts on the Lake Waikaremoana Track during the busy peak season).

The Whakamarino Lodge Guided Walks include educative, informative discussion along the way on the Eco-environment, native fauna and flora plus the natural and cultural history of this amazing area. Cost includes experienced guide fees,shuttle from the Lodge to the start of the walk, hut fees, meals along the way, water taxi back from the end of the walk to jetty, shuttle back to Lodge).

Current season costs for guided walk packages (groups of 3 to 6 are ideal but a few more can sometimes be included) are $200.00 (inc. GST) per person per day.You can book your guided walk when your reserve your accommodation at Lake Whakamarino Lodge

Waikaremoana Guided Tours

Waikaremoana Guided Tours Noel Himona, a trustee of Lake Whakamarino Lodge, runs Waikaremoana Guided Tours. Noel's services can be booked direct or via Lake Wakamarino Lodge. Services range from providing water taxi transport around the big lake, supplying kayaks, canoes and dinghies plus guiding services for hunting or fishing trips.

Water Taxi and Shuttle Services:

Take the water taxi to the beginning of The Great Walk or just enjoy the sights from the boat.

Trampers can be taken to the track ends from the Waikaremoana Motor Camp jetty and arrangements can be made for pickup at the exit.
Campers and Hunters can also be ferried around the lake.
Scenic trips are also offered around Lake Waikaremoana
Maximum of 8 passengers on any one water taxi trip

Hunting & Fishing Trips:

Hunt Te Urewera National Park with experienced local guides. Feel the excitement of stalking a roaring stag or chasing a team of dogs after a wild boar.
Fish Lake Waikaremoana's peaceful, trout filled waters or try for the trophy trout of Lake Whakamarino.
Hunting Permits and Fishing Licences can be arranged.
